Liz entered her newsletters into the 2011 Newsletter Marketer of the Year contest.
Here is her entry.
Describe your business before using newsletters
Tell us about any issues you had about getting clients, making sales or developing your business.
We are a CPA firm and in the past have done paper mailings on a semi-annual/quarterly basis, there was no interaction with this method, so we really didn’t have any gauge of how efficient they were.
We would call clients to get additional information but mostly messages were left.
It was very rare that we got a phone call saying I got your brochure and want more info about…
It is not that we thought we had a broken system, we just were not sure how will it worked.
I love now that I can open a report of what was opened, links clicked, forwarded, etc. Now we have real supporting information as to how many people at least open them.
Describe your business after using newsletters
Tell us how your business changed. Did you get more clients? If so, how many? How much extra income did you make? Did they benefit your business in any other way?
We actually use our newsletter more as a way to keep in touch with our clients on a regular basis. We are an accounting firm so much of our business in seasonal. We use the newsletter as a way to remind clients to tax plan and hit at services and options that they can call us for help on, thus creating more work.
We also have sharing links so they can share with friends and email through the email, so we have had people respond asking us to schedule appointments and such.
It is difficult to determine an income change, however we got many more phone calls the last week of tax season (when we sent our April newsletter) from clients making sure we had all their information (much more response than phone calls and postcard mailers have gotten us in the past.)
It definitely helps to have contact with clients during our non-busy season.
Describe how you used newsletters to get these benefits
Tell us how you distribute your newsletters, how often, and who to. Tell us anything else we need to know about your newsletter program.
We send our email out monthly to current clients, referrals and professional associates through network groups and similar.
